A few days ago, I took a moment to ponder life. Why? Our house is annually invaded by box elder bugs, which we call “mating bugs” as they are often positioned in pairs. They’re harmless, but embarrassing. Each bug is not trying to infiltrate our home; he just wants out of the cold, Oregon rain. I don’t blame him one bit, but he makes quite a stink if he crawls into the halogen lamp and can cause an extremely loud shriek if he crawls above a child’s bed.
Cluelessly, he strolls along the wall as I hover above him, tissue in hand. Alive. Then I strike. A moment later, he is dead. Odd, isn’t it? Mysterious on a small scale. Evidence of a Life-giver.
That evening I found out that a woman from our church who’d been battling cancer for some months had passed on. One moment alive and crying out with the pain of a treatment gone toxic. The next, no longer there. Mysterious on a grand scale. Her sureness of salvation a confirmation that the Life-giver, Father God, waited on the other side.
