Wanted: Super Powers … A Nine-year Old’s List

In honor of my daughter’s 10th birthday–HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ANDREA!–she’s allowing me to post a list of super powers I found behind her bed when I was changing the sheets. I convinced her that so few people read my blogs she didn’t need to be embarrassed to share it.

1. Freeze time
2. Read minds
3. Put bad guys into deep sleep
4. Invisibility
5. Perfect cursive
6. Gift of beauty (In all fairness, she had crossed this out as if deciding it wasn’t really all that important.)
7. Force field.

I love #5! I asked her how that one would work.

“Well, if I write their name in perfect cursive, the bad guys are trapped for twenty minutes.”

Makes sense to me.

Our first picture of Andrea, born at 33 1/2 weeks with Respiratory Distress–see her chest?

Here are a few other cute things from my kids. Indulge me. I’m still trying to believe I had a baby one decade ago!

From Joshua (7) when he woke up with a sore throat in the middle of the night Christmas Eve: “I’m superity-duperity thirsty!”

From “Angel” as she stroked my pretty skirt before we left for church yesterday: “Mommy princess?”

Another one from Angel at the grocery store this morning: Pointing at a magazine cover of Jennifer Aniston with a yellow lab on her shoulder “Mommy Christina?”

Kevin trying to make our parents believe we really DID just have our baby. Since I was in the parking lot of the hospital at 10:10 and she was born at 10:36, I had her in this examination room. Kevin is still in his sheriff’s deputy uniform. He came straight from work and got there with about five minutes to spare. I think he might have even had his gun on!

And just to cap the warm fuzzies off, a short vignette. Kevin was praying with Andrea before bed a few days ago and saying how he wished God would make her stay his little girl forever other such fatherly thoughts. She left him in a fine mood, but by the time she reached me downstairs she was sobbing because Daddy had prayed for her and she loved him so much, but she was growing up.

What a Daddy’s girl
Simba’s bigger than she is!

The glorious day we brought her home from the hospital

I remember when I was about 10 years old and I was walking into a store, holding my Dad’s hand. He squeezed my hand and said, “Honey, one day you won’t want to hold Daddy’s hand.” I thought, “NO WAY! I will ALWAYS want to hold my Daddy’s hand!” But most assuredly, the day came (though I don’t remember it specifically) when I no longer held my Dad’s hand in public. We almost lost him 3 times in recent years (2 near-heart attacks and 1 episode of internal bleeding). He doesn’t try to hold my hand anymore, but I know that he’s the most special man I’ve ever known. I will be 31 years old this month, but I will ALWAYS be my Daddy’s little girl!

    Happy Birthday, Andrea!!

She’s so beautiful! I’m feeling misty because last night I just watched the video of my youngest’s birth.
    Sigh.
I love the super power list. Awesome. Especially the deep sleep part. That’s genius. 🙂
    Happy Birthday Andrea!
