“I want to read it both faster and slower at the same time … the sentences flow effortlessly, yet the quality of every word, carefully chosen, seeps through the pages and begs for my attention … I desire, but am afraid, to read further as the impending pain is too personal to leave alone …”
So says a male reader who will remain nameless as he was sneaking his wife’s copy. Do we all agree he should be a writer himself?
Another amazon review came through and I thought I’d post it for you. Sally Bradley says:
“Christina Berry wowed me with her debut novel The Familiar Stranger. There’s nothing familiar or predictable about the story, though. From the moment Denise Littleton receives the call that her husband Craig is in the hospital, the book hooked me and I couldn’t stop reading. Not only is the plot fast-paced and full of I-never-would-have-guessed-that surprises, but the writing itself is extremely well done.
“I stayed up until 1:30 in the morning because I had to know what was going on. I’m now a huge fan of Christina’s talent and will watch for more of her books in the future.”
Now, don’t let those amazing words from John Doe and Sally raise your expectations too much though. I don’t want to set you up for disappointment. Here are two endorsements I’m offering up to counteract any inflated expectations.
“I didn’t fall asleep while reading it.” (inspired by my grandfather)
or
“More interesting than the back of a cereal box!’
The actual blog for today’s tour spot is Dawn King’s Live Like a King. She explains why, as a reader of historical fiction, she’d be willing to give The Familiar Stranger a try.
Bonus posts are Tracy Ruckman’s 3×3 Interview–the best, the worst, the changed; and Nicole M. Miller shares how the publication of The Familiar Stranger gives her hope and encouragement.
