Kevin told me to get dressed up…so I did. Heels, glittery earrings, and a new dress. About ten minutes before we were supposed to leave, our friends called and told him their little girl was sick.
“What are we going to do?”
“We’ll just go without them, but you have to be ready in five minutes.”
I went to put some lipstick on and grab my sweater. I’d gotten halfway down the hall before Kevin called me back. “Christina, there’s some lady here for you.”
And there was my critique partner, Miriam, walking up the driveway with a dish in her hand.
I spun on my high heel. “We’re having a party? Here?”
Yep, he whisked me all of zero miles away. Never, I say never, was I so glad Clean Freak Mama had returned. So we threw a party!
(He did the whole thing over evite, so some of you reading this were invited but the email didn’t go through.)
All the indoor pictures turned out blurry, but you still get a taste of the fun here.
My friend Nikki brought me these locally grown dahlias. Gorgeous! I also received two Cold Stone gift certificates totally $30–conveniently my age–and two journals. I guess my friends all know I love ice cream and writing. After I whined for a few minutes about how I really needed a new Bible to go along with the beautiful journals, Kevin brought out more presents. A skein of yarn from Joshua who wants a scarf knit, some glass rocks which we put straight into the bottom of the vase from Andrea, and from Kevin…a new Bible! (I’ve been using the same one since the summer of ’95 and it is falling apart.)
Then, today in the mail, I received my prize for winning the Distracted Toe contest. The flip flop mood ring says I’m active, relaxed, and lovable.
Pretty good for a day spent doing four loads of laundry and inputting 190 pages of edits. You won’t hear from me again until after ACFW, so pray for us when I cross your mind. I’ll tell you all about it, with lots of pictures, when I return!
I noticedi n the pictures that Kevin wasted NO TIME changing his clothes. Happy Early Birthday!!
Love the pics!! =)
It was so fun meeting you in person. I’m glad you and your mother had a great conference experience. Yay, God!!!
